Your Android phone is highly customizable, giving you control over basic phone features like data usage and settings for when you're roaming, which is when you're on a network other than your own carrier's. Use your phone's main setting to disable all data usage when you're roaming. You'll still know when you're roaming by the signal strength indicator in the Status Bar, where you'll see the standard green bars as well as a small "R" for "Roaming."

  1. 1.

Press the "Home" button to reach the Home screen.

  2. 2.

    Press the "Menu" button.

  3. 3.

Tap "Settings," "Wireless & networks" and "Mobile networks."

  4. 4.

Ensure that the "Data roaming" option is unchecked. If it's checked, remove the check by tapping it.

  5. 5.

Press the "Home" or "Back" button to exit "Mobile networks" settings.
