Does Rust Encapsulator really work? ›

The question isn't “do rust converters and encapsulators work?” Both are very effective at preventing rust through the task they are designed for.

Apply product when surface temp is between 40° Fahrenheit and 80° Fahrenheit with humidity from 10 to 75%. NOTE: assure moisture is not accumulating on the surface to be coated. Apply 1 medium wet coat with bristle brush or roller assuring all cavities and areas of corrosion are covered.

Single coats of Eastwood Rust Encapsulator™ will be dry to the touch in 20 minutes and thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F.

How long does it take Rust Converter to dry? Rust Converter will dry to the touch in approximately 20 minutes. Application of a second coating will ensure proper rust conversion. If possible, wait 24 hours before applying a second coat of Rust Converter to allow for curing.

The Rust Encapsulator also acts as a primer for pretty much ANY coating you wish to apply over top, including body fillers. Which one should I use for my application? For HEAVY rust we recommend the Rust Converter first, followed by the Rust Encapsulator to seal & prime the surface.

Application Tips

Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Wipe down with Pre Painting Prep (10041Z). Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle.

Q: Do you have to paint over a Rust Converter? A: No. Although you do not have to paint after the Rust Converter application, if you would like a different color other then black then use an oil based paint which will also resist weather, sunlight, rain and even salt spray without peeling or cracking.

Can you put Eastwood Rust Encapsulator over paint? ›

Absolutely. POR-15 will accept all paints, including lacquer-based paints. POR-15 Tie-Coat Primer is the best prime coat to use before topcoating POR-15.
